London Assembly vets apprenticeships

London: London-based Apprentices to professional services firms have been encouraged to share their experiences with an investigation into apprenticeships in London, launched yesterday by Stephen Knight, Chair of the London Assembly Economy Committee. The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has set a target of 250,000 apprenticeships in all industries to start in London by 2016, but at the moment apprenticeships are not as popular in the capital as in the rest of the UK. PwC, which leads the recently launched London Professional Apprenticeship (LPA) programme, welcomed the inquiry; the LPA scheme will provide 250 new apprenticeships to attract outstanding young Londoners into professional services roles.
