Deloitte sees record transfer spend

London: The 20 clubs in the English Premier League spent a record amount on new players during the summer transfer window, according to Deloitte's Sports Business Group. It says that gross spending totalled £630 million during the window, which closed on Monday night, up 29% on last years spend of £490 million. This summer's total has also beaten the previous record of £500 million, which was set by the top flight five years ago. On deadline day alone, the Premier League's clubs spent a combined £140 million.
