India's Wipro has ambitious plans to build its Nordics presence

Nordics

Stockholm and Bangalore: Indian IT consultancy Wipro Ltd plans to strengthen its presence in the Nordic region with an increase in headcount of 500 over the next 3 years, following the appointment of Carl-Henrik Hallstrom as Regional Head for the Nordics earlier in the summer.

Hallstrom took up his post in July. Previously he held the position of Head of Sourcing Advisory, KPMG Nordics. He had joined KPMG after its global acquisition of EquaTerra in 2011; he was the Managing Director of EquaTerra's Nordic operations. He will be based in Stockholm and report to Rajat Mathur, Chief Sales and Operations Officer, Growth Markets, Wipro. Wipro has identified Asia Pacific, Nordics, Germany, France, South Africa, and Latin America as its key growth markets.

Rajat Mathur said, "Nordics is poised to become one of the more important growth markets for Wipro and we are committed to investing in the region. We are very pleased to have Carl-Henrik (Hallstrom)on board to lead Wipro's operations in the Nordics, and I am confident that he will be able to build on the growth momentum in the region. We wish him the very best in his new role."

The firm says it does not divulge its regional headcount but implies that it is building a significant presence in the Nordic countries, and is moving towards an increasing "localisation" of its workforce there.

Wipro says its focus will be on key verticals such as Telecom, Manufacturing, and Energy & Utilities that have a strong presence in the region.
