London: L.E.K. Consulting has been named "Specialist Due Diligence Provider of the Year" at the 2012 unquote" British Private Equity Awards.

The awards reward innovation and excellence in private equity and venture capital, and looked at the industry's ability to help foster the wider economy.

In their citation the award judges commented, "The firm (L.E.K.) grew its private equity practice substantially over the judging period, advising on 62 deals, a nearly 50% increase on the same period last year.

"Combined, these deals were worth more than £5.3bn across 29 houses, a fifth of which represented new business for the firm."

The judges praised L.E.K. for the consistent quality of its work and the trusted relationships it has with a wide range of clients.

During the judging period, L.E.K. supported a number of high-profile deals, including The Carlyle Group's £1bn acquisition of RAC from Aviva in September, one of last year's largest buyouts, and Equistone's €1bn disposal of Global Blue to Silver Lake Partners. Working for both vendors and investors, L.E.K. worked across a variety of sectors including energy & environment, financial services, industrial and transportation.

Larry Verge, Head of L.E.K. Consulting's London office, said, "Developing a credible and reliable commercial assessment of the opportunity is a critical element of any successful deal, particularly in these challenging economic conditions.

"L.E.K. has a long history of providing rigorous research and analysis, backed by deep industry expertise, for some of the market's most significant deals. We are delighted to win this award and are proud to support some of the industry's most dynamic and innovative firms."

Earlier this month L.E.K. was named Management Consultants of the Year 2012 at the Independent Healthcare Awards too.
