Bain turns to Bechek.

Bob Bechek, Bain

New York: Bain & Company, the global strategy firm, has elected Bob Bechek as its new worldwide managing director; he'll take up his post on March 1, 2012.

He will succeed Steve Ellis, who served seven years as the worldwide managing director.

Bechek is currently the partner who heads Bain's Boston office and the Northeast (US) region. He was previously co-head of the firm's Global Telecom, Media and Technology Practice. Bain says he has a long and successful record helping clients with strategy and other general management challenges.

"Bob is a role model for Bain's values and is deeply committed to building on Bain's nearly 40 years of leadership in our industry," said Steve Ellis, Bain's worldwide managing director. "With his leadership qualities, client service track record, and exceptional strategy and operations skills, Bob will successfully lead the firm through the next phase of our growth."

Before joining the firm in 1987, he was vice president and general manager of AKR Robotics, Inc., a company he started in the U.S. after working in mechanical research and development (R&D) for the parent company in France.

He earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.
